Ottawa Inline Skating Festival A Success! Celebration of Eastern Canadian Skating!

This past weekend’s Ottawa Inline Skating Festival was a success, attracting over 100 skaters from across Eastern Ontario and beyond. The revamped two-day event was an opportunity for local clubs from Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto to meet up and celebrate inline & roller speed skating with 10km, 21km, and 42km distance options.

42km- Almeralla and Charbonneau Win!
Ottawa’s Sergio Almeralla (Il Peloton) and Montreal’s Martine Chabonneau (Taz Vitesse) topped the field in the 42km event. Both skaters smashed previous course records for the event. Charbonneau also claimed victory in the 10km event. Finishing 2nd in the women’s in the 10km and 42km events was Morgane Echardour.

10km Men- Surprise Winner- Stephane Charron!
Montreal’s Stephane Charron (VRL Le Club) was the surprise winner in the 10km event on Saturday afternoon, claiming victory over a
competitive field in event record time! Charron was joined on the podium by Jerome Comptois-Urbain and Morgan Williams.

New Kid on the Block! Juan Diego Zuluaga!
Another skater who turned heads and was noticed over the weekend’s events is Longueuil’s Juan Diego Zuluaga. The 12-year old finished 3rd in the marathon and 5th in the 10km.

Local Skater Wins 21km- Dominic Veillette  
Ottawa’s Dominic Veillette  took top honours in the 21km skate. Toronto’s Jesus Alvarado, skating in his first outdoor competition, took 2nd place.
