Jesse Pauley, who won the field sprint for 2nd place, leads

This past weekend’s Montreal Roller Marathon served as the Canadian Marathon Championships. Newcomer and upcoming speedster Christopher Fiola and Morgane Echardour were the top finishes in the men’s and women’s Canadian Championship marathon. Fiola topped the field by breaking away with 9km’s to go, holding off efforts to chase him down. Echardour won by sticking with the lead pack for over 11 of the 14 laps.

Organizers of the event put together a well-attended race that was held under ideal conditions, drawing skaters from across Eastern-Canada as well as the USA. The event also had NROC status, a North American marathon series. Skaters enjoyed clear sunny skies and some wind that made tactics an important factor.

Christopher Fiola (1st)- the 15-year old winner of the marathon!- photo from Denis Lemay

Le Marathon Roller Montréal à eu lieu en fin de semaine. L’évènement a servi comme Championnat Canadiens du Marathon. Christopher Fiola, un nouvel arrivant, et Morgane Echardour ont fini en tête dans le Championnat Canadien du Marathon chez les hommes et les femmes. Fiola à gagné la course avec un bel échapé solo de 9km, évitant se faire rattraper par le peloton. Echardour gagna le marathon chez les femmes en restant dans le groupe de tête pour 11 des 14 tours.

Les organisateurs de l’événement on mis sur pied une belle course dans des conditions idéales, attirant des patineurs du Canada et des Etats-Unis. L’événement avait également statut NROC, une série Nord Américane de marathons. Les patineurs ont roulés sous un ciel ensoleillé et un vent qui fait tactiques un facteur important.
