Photos: Grand Prix VRL, Dimitri Papadopoulos

Dimitri Papadopoulos was on hand to shoot pictures this past weekend at the VRL Grand Prix #1 in Laval documenting the action. Quebec. Short track speed skating Olympic medalist Valérie Maltais and Colombia’s Nicolas Laborde were the top finishers in the 21km race.

On the men’s side, Peter Doucet provided an early breakaway, only to be caught and passed by Colombia’s Nicolas Laborde and later by Montreal’s speedy Chris Fiola. The due leaders eventually lapped the entire field on the 650m track and cruised onward to a dominating victory over the competitive field. Olivier Jean, also an Olympic medalist, managed to earn a 3rd place finish by catching Doucet on the final lap, who’d been out solo for 15km’s. On the women’s side, Valérie Maltais stuck it out withe the chase pack, finishing with Ottawa’s Sergio Almeralla. Martine Charbonneau came back to action and finished 2nd in the women’s 21km.

Dimitri Papadopoulos était photographe au Grand Prix VRL #1 à Laval, Quebec le 1ier juin pour documenter la compétition. La médallée Olympique en courte piste Valérie Maltais et le Colombien Nicolas Laborde était les premiers finissants dans le 21km.

Du côté des hommes, Pierre Doucet a fourni une échappée tot dans la course, seulement pour être rattrapé et dépassé par le Colombien Nicolas Laborde et un peu plus tard par Chris Fiola de Montréal. Les deux échapé on pris une victoire dominante et prennant un tour sur tous les patineurs. Olivier Jean, également médaillé olympique, a réussi à gagner une 3e place en attrapant Doucet, qui avait été en solo pour 15 m, dans le dernier tour. Du côté des femmes, Valérie Maltais qui était dans le peloton a fini avec Sergio Almeralla d’Ottawa pour gagner. Martine Charbonneau, qui revient en compétition, a terminé 2e dans le 21km féminin.

Double Race Weekend- Toronto and Montreal, Deux Evenements en Fin de Semaine- Toronto et Montreal

This weekend will be a ouble race weekend. The RSO Series #1 will be held in Toronto on Saturday and VRL Grand Prix #1 will be held in Laval on Sunday.

Competiton Calendar: Nationals & Worlds, Calendrier de Compétitions: Champs Canadiens et Mondiaux

The RSC Speed Committee is committed to moving speed forward in Canada by helping build a good competition calendar.

A competition is planned for May 17 in St-Lambert, near Montreal, in order to select two men & two women to represent Canada at the Pan Am Olympic Festival this July in Mexico.

Events put on by local RSC-affiliated Clubs (VRL Le Club and Toronto Inline Skating Club) will be peppered in May and June, followed by the The Canadian Championships in Toronto June 28-29.

This year’s World Championships have just been confirmed for Nov. 6-15 in Rosario, Argentina.

Le Comité Vitesse RSC s’engage à la croissance du volet roller vitesse au Canada en aidant avec l’organisation d’évènements.

Une compétition est prévue pour le 17 mai à St-Lambert, près de Montréal, afin de sélectionner deux hommes et deux femmes pour représenter le Canada au Festival Olympique Pan Am qui aura lieu ce juillet au Mexique.

Il y aurra des évènements organisés par des Clubs affiliés avec RSC (VRL Le Club et Toronto Inline Skating Club) qui seront parsemées en mai et juin, et suivis par les Championnats Canadiens à Toronto du 28 au 29 juin.

Les Championnats du Monde de cette année viennent d’être confirmé pour le 6 au 15 novembre à Rosario, en Argentine.

Roller Sports Canada’s Speed Committee is now accepting applications from RSC members to be considered for Canada’s selection (two women and two men) to compete at the Pan American Olympic Festival this July in Mexico.

Funding & Grant Opportunity in Ontario With TO2015 Ignite Program, Subventions en Ontario Avec le Programme TO2015 Ignite

There is a funding & grant opportunity in Ontario thanks to the TO2015 Ignite program.

The Province of Ontario launched IGNITE Ontario on March 13. This new provincial program is designed to help organizations host celebrations and community engagement initiatives that promote the TORONTO 2015 Games and that help leave a lasting legacy in their communities.

The IGNITE Ontario grant application window is open until May 5, 2014 at 5 p.m. To be eligible for the grant, your initiative must be a participant of the TO2015 IGNITE program.

La province de l’Ontario a lancé ANIMER Ontario le 13 mars. Ce nouveau programme est conçu pour aider les organisations à créer des célébrations et pour encourager les initiatives communautaires faisant la promotion des Jeux de 2015 à TORONTO et en contribuant à laisser un héritage durable au sein de leurs communautés.

Il est possible de faire une demande de subvention à ANIMER Ontario jusqu’à 17 h le 5 mai 2014. Pour être admissible à une subvention, votre initiative doit faire partie du programme ANIMER de TO2015.
