Metro Ottawa- Skating In The Summertime

Ottawa skaters and the Ottawa Inline Skating Fesitval are featured in Metro- read more in Skating in the summertime.

“Ottawa is a really green, scenic city with so many bike paths,” said Garvin. “There’s paths downtown, on the Ottawa River Parkway, by Carleton University, by Hog’s Back, on the Aylmer side of the river, towards Woodroffe and Baseline and there’s a path through the Experimental Farm,” said Garvin. “You can skate a 60K loop around Ottawa.”

Morgane Echardour & Peter Doucet In Europe For Worlds

Morgane Echardour and Peter Doucet have been training in France since early July. Echardour and Doucet were recently photographed training with World Champion and World Inline Cup front-runner Yann Guyader. Click here for the photo album.

The pair have been training on a 200-meter banked track in Nantes, France, in preparation for the upcoming World Roller Speed Skating Championships in Gijon, Spain. You can follow Peter Doucet’s website Speed Skate World.

The rest of the Canadian World Team will arrive in Gijon on September 1st. Racing begins September 4th.

See Canada’s New Racing Uniform

Canada’s new racing skin suit saw the light of day thanks to the Design Canada! competition.

The suits are ready just in time for the World Roller Speed Skating Championships, which are set to take place September 4th to 12th in Gijon, Spain.

Canada’s team of 9 skaters will arrive in Gijon September 1st. The skaters, coaches, and supporters are all responsible for the majority of the costs so that they could represent Canada.

Toronto’s Sarah Hopkins 2nd In Chicago

A number of Canadian roller speed skaters travelled to support the Chicagoland Inline Marathon. The race was held this past Saturday.

Sarah Hopkins, who is set to represent Canada at the upcoming World Roller Speed Skating Championships in Gijon, Spain, finished 2nd overall in the women’s category. Her time was 1:14.25. She was edged out by USA’s Debbie Rice. Rice’s team-mate, Jilleanne Rookard who finished 3rd overall, has World Championship medals to her name.

The top Canadian male finisher was Morgan Williams.

Canadian World Team & Open Training Camp July 26 & 27

There will be a Canadian World Team & Open Training Camp on July 26th & 27th at the CITC in Harriston-

Alex Perrie will hold a training camp on July 26th and 27th. The camp open to everyone. Alex Perrie & Andrew Hegarty will conduct the programme.

Programme Outline:
Friday– Registration, orientation, campfire & BBQ. People can camp or stay overnight or drive back & forth- whatever is appropriate and suitable for everyone.
Saturday– Skate 8:00am to 4:00pm
Sunday– Skate 8:00am to 4:00pm

The camp will feature: drills & skills on the new pad, technique and race strategies, training and some fun races & activities, international videos, spinning classes, and weight sessions.

Cost for Weekend = $85.00 or One day $45.00

Come to the training camp at the CITC track in Harriston and at the same time help the Ontario members of this year’s World Team raise funds to help them with their expenses.
