The Canada Day Marathon will not be taking place this year.
The event, which has been run on July 1st for the past several years, is lacking a race organizer and there is construction on the roads used for the event.
The Toronto Inline Skating Club is in the early phases of exploring different options for putting an event together for July 1st.
The Canadian team competing at the 2011 Pan American Championships in Rosario, Argentina, have been racing with very fast skaters from the Americas.
Canada’s women reached the goal of placing Canada in the top-10 Nations in points on the track in order to qualify for the 2011 Pan American Games. This means Canada will field a women’s team and no men’s team at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico this October.

Canada’s women, Martine Charbonneau & Morgane Echardour, got the job done over the two days of intense racing on the 200-meter banked track. Unfortunately, Canadian skaters suffered a few crashes, with three of the five skaters going down on the second day of track racing. All three who fell are well. Steve Robillard, who suffered a concussion after falling at the end of his 500-meter heat, won’t be racing the road program or the marathon. Jade Pauley crashed early during the 15km elimination race while in great position near the front of the pack.

This competition, which falls well outside of the Canadian racing season, saw the Canadian team having to adjust quickly to the heat as well as being on skates on an unfamiliar track.
Two days of racing on a 200-meter banked track are now complete, and two days of racing on a road course remain. The road program is set for Thursday & Friday. The marathon will then take place on Saturday.
Montreal’s Steve Robillard was selected as the flag carrier at today’s opening ceremony for the Pan American Championships.

Roller Sports Canada is pleased to announce the following skaters and supporters will represent Canada at the 2011 Pan American Championships in Rosario, Argentina. This competition serves to qualify nations for the upcoming Pan American Games set for October in Mexico.
Racing begins on Monday March 7th, with two days of track racing, followed by a rest day, two days of racing on a road course, and wrapping up with a marathon held on Saturday March 12th.

Some skaters consider the off-season the time to kickback and relax, drink some beer and watch some football.
That’s fine. Taking a break at the end of the season gives your body and mind a well-deserved rest. But don’t go overboard.
What you do during the off-season lays the foundation for the new year. Don’t waste it.

VRL Le Club de Laval a organisé une compétition de roller a l’intérieur qui a eu lieu cette fin de semaine. La compétition s’est deroulée au Récréathque de Laval.

Plusieurs patineurs de Montréal, de la région de Toronto, aine que de la France ont assisté a cette compétition.
C’est une véritable tornade humaine qui a envahie la piste de la Récréathèque de Laval le 19 février dernier. En effet, près d’une soixantaine de patineurs ont tourbillonnés en participant à la deuxième rencontre de la Coupe VRL, une compétition de patinage de vitesse en roller.
Les participants provenaient des clubs VRL et Taz du Québec, Ottawa Inline et Toronto Inline de l’Ontario ainsi que des ALVA et ASTA de la France. La compétition était composée d’une courte et d’une longue distance et se terminait par une course à élimination. Les organisateurs du club VRL se disent très fiers de l’événement et planifient la dernière tranche qui se tiendra le 30 avril pour couronner les champions de la Coupe VRL.

Charlotte Freeman, a multiple World Team members who represented Canada at the World Roller Speed Skating Championships in the late 80’s was injured in a fire at her home in BC.

The 2011 Oceania Speed Skating Championships will be held on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia from April 16th to the 21st.

In this day and age of disappearing skate races, I think it’s time to pass along some good news that will hopefully inspire at least one of you to help your fellow inliners. This story begins with Peggy Girgenti of Luigino Racing.
A couple of years ago, Peggy got in touch with a friend who was involved with a mini-triathlon in Hemet, California, called the Tinsel Town Tri. Peggy arranged meetings with the race promoter and convinced him to let inline be a part of the event, albeit on a trial basis. They agreed that the skaters would only use a portion of the actual event’s race course, but at that point, Peggy agreed. She had her foot in the door! “My approach with them was ‘you won’t have to do a thing, you will hardly notice us, we will stay out of your hair.’ We didn’t ask for one thing, and I intend to keep it that way. We start, skate, do our own finish line, results, and awards, and hand them a check. It’s a win-win for them and us. I made sure everyone understood ahead of time that we are just guests at THEIR event, and to expect nothing,” Peggy said.
