Constant Montpellier and Nadine Currie Jackson skated with some of the best Masters skaters in the World. Both athletes placed well, with Nadine Currie Jackson finishing in 6th place in her category. Constant Montpellier his group’s final sprint and was gobbled up by a group of skaters with about 100-meters to go.

We regret to announce the cancellation of the competition at Taz. To date, only a dozen club members have signed up. This number does not allow us to justify the cancellation of the other activities at the taz for the day
June 19.
However, we will do a friendly competition in in preparation for Canadian championships.

This past weekend’s Ottawa Inline Skating Festival was a success, attracting over 100 skaters from across Eastern Ontario and beyond. The revamped two-day event was an opportunity for local clubs from Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto to meet up and celebrate inline & roller speed skating with 10km, 21km, and 42km distance options.
42km- Almeralla and Charbonneau Win!
Ottawa’s Sergio Almeralla (Il Peloton) and Montreal’s Martine Chabonneau (Taz Vitesse) topped the field in the 42km event. Both skaters smashed previous course records for the event. Charbonneau also claimed victory in the 10km event. Finishing 2nd in the women’s in the 10km and 42km events was Morgane Echardour.

10km Men- Surprise Winner- Stephane Charron!
Montreal’s Stephane Charron (VRL Le Club) was the surprise winner in the 10km event on Saturday afternoon, claiming victory over a
competitive field in event record time! Charron was joined on the podium by Jerome Comptois-Urbain and Morgan Williams.
New Kid on the Block! Juan Diego Zuluaga!
Another skater who turned heads and was noticed over the weekend’s events is Longueuil’s Juan Diego Zuluaga. The 12-year old finished 3rd in the marathon and 5th in the 10km.
Local Skater Wins 21km- Dominic Veillette
Ottawa’s Dominic Veillette took top honours in the 21km skate. Toronto’s Jesus Alvarado, skating in his first outdoor competition, took 2nd place.

Nadine Currie Jackson (Frederickton) and Constant Montpellier (Montreal) will represent Canada at the World Masters Marathon Championships in Dijon.

Canadian skaters placed well at last weekend’s Eastern Seaboard Series season opener in Trexlertown, PA.
The pro women’s field saw a Canadian sweep by Martine Charbonneau and short track speed skater Valerie Maltais.
Toronto’s Herb Gayle was able to step on the podium in the Pro Veteran’s race while Montreal’s Steve Robillard stuck with the pack in the pro men’s race.

The Ottawa Inline Festival always brings out Canada’s top skaters. And this year is no different — despite major changes in the event.
Among the Canadians who will be lining up for the marathon Sunday are Toronto Inline’s Peter Doucet and Morgane Echardour; Schankel-Kallisto’s Morgan Williams and Georg Nikodym; Il Peloton’s Sergio Almeralla and Steve Robillard; and Martine Charbonneau.

I’ve been excited about my trip to Gerlev International Skate Camp at Sk8SKOOL for quite a few months. Imagine spending two weeks at a sports academy in the company of skaters and living out the “sleep, eat, skate, repeat” motto! With a bit of lucky coincidence, my teammate NCJ and I flew out of Toronto Pearson International Airport yesterday on the same flight. The 8 hours flight felt short in the company of good friend and I barely caught a bit of shuteye before landing in Copenhagen early Sunday morning.

The annual North of the 49th Marathon will take place on August 28th at Birds Hill Park, near Winnipeg. This is the site where the 1999 Pan American Games Roller Speed Skating marathon was held.
