Canada’s ultra-marathon and maratho girls should be very proud this week. Three of them, including Martine Charbonneau, Morgane Echardour, and Candy Wong won their respective categories at this past weekend’s New York 100k & NYC Skate Marathon.
Many skaters from Ottawa and Montreal as well as a hand-full from Toronto competed this past Saturday in the New York 100k. The race, which took place in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, featured 19 5+ km loops in the park. Skaters encountered wet and rainy conditions.
Greenfield Park’s Martine Charbonneau came across the line uncontested to collect her second victory in as many years in the pro women’s 100km race. Morgane Echardour was victorious in the 42km pro women’s race, while Toronto Inline’s Candy Wong was the top female finisher in the advanced 42km race.
Mississauga’s Peter Doucet placed 7th overall in the pro men’s 100k and Morgan Williams raced a strong race, finishing top-20.
